Eau Claire man facing felony sexual assault charges

Eau Claire (WQOW)- An Eau Claire man has been charged after multiple attacks on women this week in Eau Claire.

Police say Anthony Grabowska has a long criminal history.  But these new charges may be more serious than what he's faced in the past.

Grabowska, who neighbors say goes by the nickname "Holy Ghost," was charged Thursday with sexual assault, disorderly conduct, and battery for what he allegedly did Tuesday night in Eau Claire.

Witnesses told the Eau Claire Police Department that Grabowska was drinking, got into a fight with his girlfriend where he grabbed her by the neck and threw her down.

Another woman says he then broke into a bathroom in an apartment on Germania Street, raped her and then punched her in the face.  Police talked about sexual assault cases like this one.

"It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, we at the police department take it very seriously," explains Sgt. Mark Pieper with the Eau Claire Police Department.

Law enforcement says this isn't the first time Grabowska has had trouble with the law this year.

"Mr. Grabowska does have prior contacts with the police department and those contacts include drug offenses and prior domestic assault charges," says Pieper.

This year, Grabowska was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia, domestic abuse and disorderly conduct related to a retail theft.  He also has been convicted of crimes in Minnesota.

He was convicted of domestic abuse less than three months ago.  At the time, he was sentenced to 45 days in jail, but did not have to serve that time as long as he met certain conditions.  In this most recent case, Grabowksa is considered a repeat offender for each count.  He's being held on $10,000 bond.  His next court appearance is scheduled for August 27th.
