WAUPUN (WKOW) -- The Waupun police officer accused of burglarizing three businesses in Green Lake County has resigned.

The Beaver Dam Daily Citizen reports Lt. Brad Young turned in his resignation letter on Wednesday. It will go on to the Police and Fire Commission for approval on August 29.

The 22-year veteran with Waupun police is accused of breaking into a restaurant on August 5 then leading authorities on a chase, fleeing to northwestern Wisconsin. Young turned himself the next day in Burnett County.

Young is charged with three counts of attempted burglary in Green Lake County and two charges of fleeing and stealing a vehicle in Barron County. He's scheduled to make an initial court appearance on August 28.
