Death of missing woman ruled a suicide

Chippewa County (WQOW)- Authorities have released new information about a missing woman whose body was found Sunday evening near Lake Wissota. 

The Chippewa County coroner says Courtney Hagel was found hanging in a tree.  Her death has been ruled a suicide. 

Hagel's body was found by her boyfriend five days after she threatened to harm herself. She was last seen a week ago walking away from a Lafayette residence.

Chippewa County (WQOW)- The body of a missing woman has been found in Chippewa County. Sheriff's officials say Courtney Hagel's body was discovered Sunday evening in the Town of Lafayette. 

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says her body was found just 200 yards from where Hagel was last seen. Hagel's body was discovered by someone who knew her, north of County Highway X in a wooded area near train tracks. Captain Eugene Gutsch says there are no visible wounds on the body and foul play is not suspected. 

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says Courtney Hagel was last seen Tuesday night. Friends say she was upset and threatening to harm herself when she walked away from a mobile home on County Highway X near Lake Wissota. 

An autopsy will be done to figure out the cause of Hagel's death.

This is an update to cancel the missing person report of Courtney M. Hagel sent Friday 08/23/2013.
 
Shortly after 5PM this date, Sunday 08/25/2013 Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area CTH X near the Cenex Gas Station in the Town of Lafayette on report of someone finding a person in a wooded area believed deceased. Deputies were lead to a row of pine trees north of CTH X along the railroad tracks where the body was located.
The body was identified as that of the missing person Courtney M. Hagel.
No foul play is suspected and the community is not at risk.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The matter remains under investigation.

Chippewa County (WQOW)-  A body has been discovered near Highway X in the Town of Lafayette. The Chippewa County Sheriff says he cannot comment on the manner of death, but says there are no signs of foul play. 

Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says the body was found around 5:30 Sunday evening. He says the body was discovered by someone who knew the victim. The gender of the victim has not been released.

Last week a Chippewa County woman was reported missing. The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says Courtney Hagel was last seen Tuesday night. Friends say she was upset and threatening to harm herself when she walked away from a mobile home on County Highway X near Lake Wissota.
