Medellin, Colombia (WQOW) -- The numbers told Wally Ellenson he was one of the best young high jumpers in the world. On Sunday, he proved the numbers right. Ellenson won gold at the Junior Pan American Games.
Representing Team USA, Ellenson cleared 2.15 meters -- or just over seven-feet. That effort was good enough to earn the gold medal.
The accomplishment puts a cherry on what has been a big year for Ellenson. He was an All-American with the Minnesota track and field team and was part of the Gophers' basketball team as well. He'll be beginning his sophomore season at Minnesota in a few weeks.
