Driver arrested for 5th OWI

MADISON (WKOW) -- Shortly before 10:00 Sunday night, a UW-Madison police officer stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Campus and University Bay Drives for speeding.

During the stop, the driver's breath smelled of alcohol.

45-year-old Kevin Ball, of Madison, already had four previous OWI convictions with a .02 blood alcohol limit.  A breath test determined Ball's BAC was .054 and he was arrested.

During a search of Ball's vehicle, officers found a grinder device used for marijuana.

Ball was booked into Dane County Jail for 5th offense operating while intoxicated/prohibited alcohol limit, a felony.  Other citations issued: speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, operating with a suspended registration, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The UW-Madison Police Department wants to remind drivers, while it's never appropriate to drive a vehicle while intoxicated, officers are paying extra close attention to OWI violations this month as part of the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
