Father Klimek is remembered by staff

Flags are flying at half staff today at the site of a local hospital in memory of a man known by many in the community.

Sacred Heart Hospital's Father Klimek passed away yesterday afternoon at the hospital. He will be remembered for his humble kindness and compassion. Monsignor Klimek faithfully helped minister to countless people in the Chippewa Valley.

He broke his arm a few weeks ago and had been facing a number of health complications since. Father Klimek received many awards and recognitions during his lifetime. He had been with Sacred Heart Hospital for 45 years. It's a time patients, their families, Sacred Heart staff and the community won't forget.

"He just knew when people needed him. That was the incredible thing about him. He made everyone he ever touched feel special. He didn't care if he knew you from before; he didn't care what faith you were, or where you came from. In that moment, that he interacted with you, you felt that you were very special. That you were the most important person in that moment because that was his gift to us."

The Mass of Christian Burial for Monsignor Edmund Klimek will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on September 5 at Saint James the Greater Parish in Eau Claire. Bishop William Callahan of the Diocese of La Crosse will be the main celebrant and Father George Szews the homilist. A public reception at Florian Gardens will take place 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. on September 5.

The visitation will be held at the Father Christopher Chapel at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire on September 4 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Evening Prayer at 7 p.m.
