Restored Bucky Wagon keeping tradition alive

Wisconsin's "Bucky Wagon" is one of the most iconic vehicles around.  Now, after a recent face-lift it's bringing storied tradition to the next generation of Badger fans.

The vintage 1932 Le France fire engine has been carrying UW cheerleaders and Bucky Badger for years.    As you might expect, all that use created plenty of wear and tear.

For years the engine carried the cheer team down onto the field at Camp Randall, but university leaders ended the tradition because of safety concerns and deterioration.

Wisconsin professor Glenn Bower worked with engineers at Pierce Manufacturing to refurbish the wagon and ended up improving on the original design.  They redesigned the bed of the truck with better seating and storage.  Diamond plating and reinforced rails will keep the running boards firm and will be able to support more Spirit Squad members.

The Bucky Wagon is now a greener vehicle.  LED emergency lights now top the wagon and will cut back on electricity use.
