31st annual Buckshot Run held at Carson Park today

More than 500 hundred people laced up their running shoes to participate in the 31st Annual Buckshot Run at Carson Park.

Runners had the option of doing a five or two mile run and there was also a kids race. All of the money raised goes to benefit local Special Olympics athletes.

"The biggest reason that anybody competes and participates is awareness and trying to get the word out that our athletes are just like everyone else." "We're seeing a lot more acceptance and understanding in our community and across the state," says Karen Kraus, Special Olympics Regional Director.

Many Special Olympics athletes competed in today's events. More than $60,000 was raised. 1,700 people were there today.
