WI group protests military action in Syria

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- As President Barack Obama made an announcement on his stance on the crisis in Syria, a Wisconsin group gathered in protest.

Members of "Peace Action Wisconsin" rallied in Milwaukee Saturday against the U.S. taking military action in Syria. Saturday afternoon, the president announced he is seeking congressional approval to launch an attack against Syria for its use of chemical weapons.

Mitch Sandquist, with the Milwaukee activist group, tells our Milwaukee affiliate WISN-TV an attack is not justified.

"It's a country that has not threatened the United States," Sandquist says. "At a time when we're facing budget crises at the federal and state levels, this is no time to be getting involved in  another unnecessary war."

The group called instead for aid and diplomacy in Syria.
