Justin Vernon and new band to perform at UW-Eau Claire in October

Posted:
Eau Claire (UWEC Press Release) - Volcano Choir, one of several recent musical collaborations for Justin Vernon, also frontman for the Grammy-Award-winning group Bon Iver and a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus, will perform at UW-Eau Claire at 8 p.m. Oct.19 in Schofield Auditorium.

The performance will conclude Volcano Choir's nationwide six-week tour, which will launch following the Sept. 3 release of the group's second album, "Repave." The tour kicks off in Chicago Sept. 6.

Volcano Choir, which released its first album,"Unmap," in 2009, is a collaborative project between Vernon and the members of Milwaukee-based Collections of Colonies of Bees. Vernon discussed "Repave" in a recent New York Magazine interview. A review of "Repave" also was published Aug. 29 by Volume One, a Chippewa Valley culture and entertainment publication.

Vernon earned a UW-Eau Claire degree in comparative studies in religion in 2004. In 2012, his group Bon Iver received Grammy Awards in the categories of best new artist and best alternative music album. Bon Iver — which also includes drummer Sean Carey, a 2007 UW-Eau Claire music alumnus — played two sold-out performances in December 2011 in UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena. The UW-Eau Claire performances followed sold-out European and North American tours.

Tickets for the UW-Eau Claire Volcano Choir show, which also will feature local band Adlyn Rose as the opening act, will be on sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena box office only. From Sept. 4-7, tickets will be sold from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Service Center in W.R. Davies Student Center only. After Sept. 7, tickets will be available through all UW-Eau Claire ticketing options (including phone and online sales).
