Suspect pleads guilty in school arson case

Posted:

St. Croix County (WQOW) - The man accused of setting fire to a western Wisconsin school has pleaded guilty.

Justin Nelson pleaded guilty to arson.  Under a plea agreement, three other charges were dropped.  In April, fires were set inside St. Croix Central Elementary in Roberts.  Damages were estimated at $4 million.

Investigators believe Nelson broke into the school through a skylight before he set the fires. No sentencing date has been set.

Insurance is paying for the repairs.  The school district says all instructional areas are ready to go except for the library.  Work on the main office and library will be finished in October.
