Badgers Volleyball wins Pepperdine Classic with upset over Waves

MALIBU, Calif. – Led by tournament MVP Ellen Chapman, the Wisconsin volleyball team won the Pepperdine Classic with a 25-22, 31-29, 35-22, 25-10 win over the host Waves on Saturday night.
The Badgers open the season 3-0 under first-year head coach Kelly Sheffield.
Chapman was named the tournament MVP after leading the Badgers with 22 kills against the Waves. She also added a team-high two service aces.
Juniors Dominique Thompson and Courtney Thomas were also named to the all-tournament team. Thompson tied her career high with 11 kills against Pepperdine. She also shared match-high honors with five blocks. Thomas put up 40 assists while adding 10 kills. She just missed her third career triple-double as she finished with nine digs and also added five blocks.
Wisconsin upset the Waves, who receive votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason poll and were an NCAA team last season.
The Badgers continue play next weekend at the North Dakota State Classic in Fargo, N.D.
