Cancer study sign up launches

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The fight to end cancer and find the cure is living strong in Eau Claire.

The American Cancer Society launched its search Tuesday for people to take part in a nationwide study.

Organizations and activists learned how to promote participation to meet the goal of 700 people in the Chippewa Valley.

The local chapter of the American Cancer Society says if you want to participate, you need to sign up ahead of time.

"The pre-enrollment allows you to pick your time, date and location for the actual study participation, so that's really exciting.  It's over the next six to eight weeks that we really want to continue this momentum and build on the existing enrollments," says Peg Banks of the American Cancer Society.

If you don't pre-enroll you won't be allowed to take part in the thirty-year long study.

Participants will give a blood sample, waist measurement and fill out an initial survey on the day of enrollment and then be mailed surveys every two to three years throughout the study.
