Chippewa Falls will buy current Chamber of Commerce building

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - Downtown Chippewa Falls is in the midst of a major makeover, and Tuesday night, the next step was taken.

At it's meeting Tuesday, the city council unanimously approved the purchase of the current Chamber of Commerce building on the corner of River and Bridge Streets. There are plans in place to develop that area into a riverfront park. As part of the downtown's new look, the Chamber of Commerce will be relocated to the Empire Building. On Tuesday night the chamber also was given a $300,000 re-development grant from the city to help fix up the old structure.

"The four exterior walls of the building are sound, other than that it's in pretty rough shape. Our plan would be to go in and completely gut the facility. Floors, new roof, new electric, HVAC, plumbing, all of that would be needed," said Mike Jordan, Chamber of Commerce President.

The asking price for the current chamber building is $430,000. Construction on the Empire Building could begin as soon as next month.
