Man stabbed after fight in Belmont

BELMONT (WKOW) -- Investigators say a 20-year-old man was stabbed during a fight in Belmont.

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department says deputies were called about the fight around 8:40 p.m. Sunday. Sheriff Scott Pedley says the fight happened in the area of the "Big M" in Belmont.

Sheriff Pedley says the 20-year-old Platteville man was confronted by five people as he walked along West Mound Road. He says the man refused to give the group his wallet and they got into a fight, and during that time the man reported he was stabbed with a knife. The man told investigators he injured three of the attackers.

After the fight, the suspects fled the area.

Sheriff Pedley says the victim's cut was not life-threatening. He was taken to Southwest Health Center, where he was treated and released.

Pedley says the suspects were reportedly masked and they were driving a black Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck.
