Waukesha woman accused of running dentist office in living room

WAUKESHA (WKOW) -- A Waukesha woman is accused of running an illegal dentist office out of her home.

An orthodontist tells our Milwaukee affiliate WISN-TV some of the patients suffer irreparable damage to their teeth and gums.

Police say a 35-year-old woman was fitting children and adults with cut-rate braces in the living room of her house.

The woman says she was "trying to help people".

According to a search warrant, she charged about $1,000, which is fifth the price of an orthodontist, but many of her clients suffered problems with bleeding gums and tooth pain. Some of those who showed up for help at a legitimate orthodontist even had bone loss.

The woman told WISN she's no longer operating the clinic from her house, because she says it's illegal.

At least six victims have been identified so far, in what police are calling a criminal investigation.
