Hayward man shares $60,000 jackpot with himself

Madison (Press Release) - Thomas Dembinski of Hayward pulled off a rare feat in the Wisconsin Lottery's August 29 Badger 5 daily jackpot drawing: He split the jackpot with himself.

Dembinski bought two $5 tickets with virtually identical sets of numbers at SSG Holiday, Hwy. 63 North in Hayward. One set of numbers on each ticket matched the winning numbers in the August 29th drawing, meaning Dembinski shared the night's $60,000 jackpot with himself.

In all he won $60,352 on the two tickets. He received $40,587 after taxes.

The August 29th winning Badger 5 numbers were 09, 11, 17, 21 and 24.

SSG Holiday in Hayward earned a $1,200 commission for selling Dembinski's jackpot tickets. Lottery retailers who sell winning tickets with prizes of $600 or more earn the equivalent of 2% of the prize, up to a maximum commission of $100,000.

Badger 5 is a $1 daily lotto game with jackpots that start at $10,000 and grow a minimum of $1,000 a day until they are won. Players win the rolling jackpot by matching their five numbers to the five winning numbers drawn each night.
