Father Klimek remembered for a lifetime of service

Eau Claire (WQOW) - He touched countless lives in his lifetime and on Thursday, his impact was clear.  Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to Father Klimek.

Father Edmund Klimek, known by friends as Eddie, served as the chaplain at Sacred Heart Hospital for more than 40 years.  He passed away last week and was laid to rest on Thursday.

Father George Szews shared the following story during the funeral services at St. James the Greater in Eau Claire.  "He was always proud of being in Independence, proud of building a school there... and just as capriciously as he had been appointed pastor at Independence, he was suddenly pulled and appointed chaplain at Sacred Heart Hospital.  Eddie would often say, 'You know in those days, it was a punishment to be appointed a hospital chaplain.  In those days, it means you were incompetent or there was no other place they could put you or that you had annoyed the bishop.'"

Father Szews also added, "He knew that loving the Lord with intensity and attempting to serve the people humbly, you just didn't stumble into.  For Father Klimek, for Eddie, it was intentional."

Following the services, friends and family shared fond memories of Father Klimek at the Florian Gardens.
