Thousands of fans to line the streets to watch "IRONMAN Wisconsin" this weekend

MADISON (WKOW) -- Participants in the "IRONMAN Wisconsin" check in on Friday and organizers say about 45,000 cheering fans will line the course on Sunday for the big race.

Athletes will compete in a 26.2 mile run, 24-mile swim and 112-mile bike ride. The swim start will be at Monona Terrace and the finish line will be on the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office wants to remind motorists about weekend traffic delays. Starting about 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, some roads will be blocked or closed because of the race route. Please, proceed with extra caution and allow for additional travel time to get your destination on Sunday.

Westbound travel should use University Avenue and Campus Drive or Regent Streets. Eastbound travel in Madison should use Johnson Street or Regent Street and north and south bound travel should use Park Street.
