Unique dinner helps support first responders in Osseo

Osseo (WQOW) - A unique dinner held earlier Saturday night went a long ways in helping to bring more first responders to Osseo.

Right now, the Osseo Rural Fire Department has just six certified volunteer first responders on staff. Hoping to raise that number, several of area businesses pitched in on a progressive dinner. Each restaurant supplied one course of a meal, and a bus brought people from stop to stop. For $35, residents had a chance to help kick in towards tools first responders carry with them at all times.

"It was a very good cause giving back to the community, buying equipment for first responders. I just thought it was very important. We're out in a rural area and if someone is closer and can get to them it can certainly save lives," said Carol Myhre of Augusta.

Thanks to the more than 140 people who took part, more than $4,000 was raised which will go towards equipment and training for more volunteers. The department has also applied for $8,000 in grants for the volunteers.
