Verona teen, 15, arrested for ramming 2 squads during overnight chase

GREEN COUNTY (WKOW) -- Authorities arrest a Verona teenager after deputies say he rammed two squad cars during an overnight chase.

The Green County Sheriff's Office says the teenager is 15 years old, and was finally taken into custody after fleeing authorities. He's being held in a secure juvenile detention facility on tentative charges of Reckless Endangerment (two counts), Criminal Damage to Property (two counts) and Fleeing an Officer.

The sheriff's office says this started just after midnight Tuesday when a deputy saw a vehicle going north on State Highway 69 that matched the description of one believed to have been stolen from the Monroe Truck business lot in the City of Monroe. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle as it neared County Highway C, but the suspect accelerated and turned onto Lake Avenue/County Highway F.

As the suspect was turning, he met with a Monticello Police squad car on Lake Avenue. The sheriff's office says the suspect tried to ram the squad head-on. The officer was able to swerve and avoid a collision.

The sheriff's office says the suspect continued on County Highway F and at one point, stopped, then backed up and rammed a Green County Sheriff's squad car, causing considerable damage. The suspect then took off again.

The Monticello police officer tried to stop the suspect, but the sheriff's office says the suspect stopped again and backed up to ram into the Monticello squad. That squad's airbag deployed and the vehicle sustained considerable damage.

The Monticello officer exited his squad car and fired several shots at the suspect vehicle. The suspect took off again, continuing east on County Highway EE.

Another sheriff's office squad car caught up with the suspect vehicle , and noticed the driver's door open. Two K9 units were called to track the suspect into a corn field.

The suspect was eventually found lying in a ditch on County Highway EE about two miles west of where the stolen vehicle was abandoned.

The 15-year-old may face additional charges regarding damage done at Monroe Truck and the stolen vehicle.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the two traffic crashes. The Monticello Police Department is investigating the shots fired at the suspect vehicle. Several other agencies are also assisting in the investigation.
