Students upset over controversial T-shirt

Posted:

Menomonie (WQOW)  - A homecoming T-shirt is stirring up controversy.  Homecoming is a few weeks away, but this is the time students start creating creative T-shirts.  Some of the students are now saying one T-shirt goes too far.

It shows a woman's bra laying next to an empty bottle of alcohol with the caption "Zero to Naked in 1.75 Liters."  On the back of the shirt is an image of a partially-clothed woman with her legs in the air.

One student says the T-shirt promotes the idea that having sex with an incredibly inebriated woman is acceptable behavior.  The student also says women shouldn't fear being taken advantage of, regardless of their choice to drink alcohol or not.

The shirt in question was not being sold by the school, but rather by a Stout student online.  Stout officials say the shirt is unfortunate, but they have no control over what a student decides to produce as long as it doesn't violate Stout's trademark rights.

The young man running the website says the message on the T-shirt was misconstrued and he has since taken the T-shirt off the website, in part because of complaints about it.
