Altoona (WQOW)- A number of jobs could be coming to the area along with a new major grocery store.
Altoona says it has reached an agreement with Woodman's Food Market and that could create as many as 200 new jobs. Woodman's is an employee-owned chain, known for its warehouse-style shopping and low prices. It has agreed to buy and develop 40 acres of land in the River Prairie development area, where it is planning on building a 240,000 square foot store. Altoona hopes the deal will lead to even more development there.
"Anyone that I have talked to just today that has been at Woodman's and has learned that they are coming to Altoona is just very excited," says Altoona City Administrator Mike Golat. "There are people that drive all the way out to La Crosse just to go to Woodman's."
Woodman's currently has 12 stores in Wisconsin. Altoona says the store expects to generate 30,000 transactions a week from customers all across western Wisconsin.
