Swimmer drowns in La Crosse area creek

La Crosse (WXOW) - La Crosse Police say the swimmer who was pulled from Swift Creek Tuesday afternoon died from his injures.

Around 4:30 p.m., the La Crosse Police Department, Fire Department, Dive Rescue Unit and Tri-State Ambulance responded to the area of Swift Creek behind 700 Benora Lee Court for a possible drowning.

Police say three people were swimming, two men and a woman, all in their 20's. The two witnesses say they were swimming when the victim became fatigued and went under the water and did not resurface. They immediately called 911 once they were on shore.

The La Crosse Fire Department says one of their Dive Rescue members performed an underwater rescue operation with SCUBA gear and located the male and brought him to shore.

An autopsy will be performed but Police say there is no foul play suspected at this time.
