Buffalo County (WXOW/WQOW) - A sheriff's investigation leads to a shutdown at a western Wisconsin school Thursday.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office advised the district Thursday morning to not open up as a precaution because of an issue with a juvenile. The sheriff says the situation was off school property.        

Authorities have not said what the issue was, or where it took place. They would only say it appeared to be a non-direct threat to the school. But the sheriff says the incident was resolved without injury and that no one was taken into custody.

District Superintendent Tom Hiebert says as soon as they were contacted by officials they implemented their emergency plan.

"We utilized our emergency procedure plan, which involves a calling tree and involves plans and procedures on how we work with county officers in these matters and that all worked out very well," says Hiebert.

The school district says classes will resume Friday.    


Buffalo County Sheriff's Office (Press Release) - Buffalo County Sheriff's Office was advised of a juvenile incident that took place off site from the Cochrane Fountain City school.

Issues relating to the juvenile situation were thought to be non direct threats to the school. As a safety precaution, the school officials were advised.

In the best interest of the school and the juvenile, it was determine that school would not open Thursday. The juvenile incident started at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, the juvenile issue was resolved safely with no one injured or in custody.

School officials were notified that any issue to the school had been resolved and school could be open.

Earlier the school had implemented it's safety protocol for any unusual situations and was supported with information the sheriff's office had at the time.

Currently the incident is resolved with no further follow-up expected.


Fountain City (WXOW) - The Cochrane Fountain City Community School District is closed Thursday.

The district's superintendent says he was advised by the Buffalo County Sheriff's Department to close due to a situation off school property.

Superintendent Tom Hiebert said there was never any danger at the school district.

No other information is being released at this time. As more information becomes available we will post it here.

Classes will resume Friday at the Cochrane Fountain City Community School District.
