Eau Claire man dies while changing tire on end loader


Trempealeau County (WQOW) - An Eau Claire man has died as he was changing a tire.

It happened Monday night outside the Arcadia town shop. The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office says Stephen Bickell II was changing a tire to an end loader when he became unresponsive. Rescue crews could not revive him.  

The sheriff's department is investigating, but says there are no indications of foul play, trauma or any problems with the end loader. Bickell was 35.


Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department (Press Release) - On September 10 at 6:36 p.m., the Arcadia Police Department and Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office personnel responded to an EMS call at the Arcadia Town Shop. 

Upon initial arrival to this location, the Arcadia Officer requested assistance indicating they were performing CPR on a male victim. Along with Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Arcadia Police,  Arcadia 1st Responders, Arcadia Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance and Mayo-One helicopter responded to this incident. 

Efforts to revive (CPR & AED) the victim, by rescue personnel, were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced deceased by Trempealeau County Coroner Bonnie Kindschy.

The victim was located outside of the Town Hall Shop and appeared to have been changing a tire to an end loader when the incident occurred.  The incident is still under investigation however there were no indications of foul play, trauma or mechanical failure. 

The deceased has been identified as Stephen I. Bickell II, 35, of Eau Claire.
