Minnesota man charged after turkey hunting incident

St. Croix County (WQOW) - Charges have been filed for a hunting incident in western Wisconsin that left a man wounded, when a hunter mistook him for a turkey.

Anthony Cardarelli, from Minnesota, has been charged with recklessly endangering safety. That's a felony.

Cardarelli allegedly shot and wounded an off-duty Minnesota sheriff's commander who was scouting for turkeys near Somerset.  The criminal complaint says Jerry Cusick was hit in the face with 58-shotgun pellets. Investigators say Cardarelli told them he heard a noise, saw something white that he thought was a turkey, and fired.

Investigators say the two men were 29 yards apart. They also say Cardarelli did not have permission to be hunting on the property. He will be in court next month.
