Antlerless permits available reduced in our area

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Hunters will be hitting the woods Saturday for the start of bow deer season but how many deer they'll see is unclear.

There are more than 250,000 archery hunters in the state, and more than a million deer. But it was tough winter and spring for deer especially in northern Wisconsin. The DNR says a late spring with heavy snow meant fewer fawns. Because of that the DNR has reduced the number of antlerless permits available in that region this year.

In west central Wisconsin, things look much better. The DNR expects deer numbers to be about the same, or higher, than last year. More than two-thirds of the units in west-central Wisconsin have deer populations higher than DNR goals.
