Collegeville, MN (WQOW) -- The end result might have been the same, but the UW-Eau Claire football team showed improvement in Saturday's game against St. John's.
Spotting the Johnnies a 17-0 lead, the Blugolds battled back in the second half to cut the deficit to three points. But Eau Claire's fifth turnover of the game sealed the team's fate on Saturday. Still, the Blugolds say there is reason for optimism going forward.
"I think if you saw the St. Thomas game and this game, the defense definitely stepped up and put some more solid plays, some more solid drives together. We had a lot of third down, fourth down stops. Overall, marked improvement from last week. We just have to keep improving. This is our second week with some of these schemes, so we're working on it," says cornerback Thurgood Dennis.
The Blugolds have the week off before playing it's home opener against Pacific Lutheran September 28th.
