Osseo man hurt in Hwy. 53 crash passes away

Altoona (WQOW)- A man from Osseo, hurt in a crash along Highway 53 last week, has died. 

Police say Aurelio Silberstro, 45, of Osseo passed away Saturday due to his injuries. He was a passenger in a pickup truck, pulling a large trailer, that lost control and went into the median on Thursday morning. It rolled several times. Siberstro was taken to the hospital. 

Two others were also inside. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Gaudencio Nava, 53, of Menomonie.  The 2nd passenger was Jesus Barreno of Mondovi.  They were also taken to the hospital following the crash. 

US 53 Southbound was closed for approximately five hours due to the crash.

The crash remains under the investigation of the Altoona Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Press Release: Altoona Police Department has been informed that Aurelio Silberstro, 45, of Osseo died on 9/21/13 due to injuries received in the crash that took place on US 53 near River Prairie Dr on 9/19/13.  He was a passenger in the vehicle.

 The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Gaudencio Nava, 53, of Menomonie.  The 2nd passenger was Jesus Barreno of Mondovi.  All three were occupants in the same vehicle.


The crash remains under the investigation of the Altoona Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol

Altoona (WQOW)- A crash in Altoona shut down Highway 53 for five hours.

 


It happened during rush hour Thursday morning just north of the River Prairie overpass. A pickup truck pulling a large trailer lost control and went into the median, where it rolled several times.

One person was thrown from the truck and has life-threatening injuries. Two others in the vehicle were also hurt.  All three were taken to the hospital, no word on their condition.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Altoona (Press Release) - On September 19, 2013 at approximately 7:33 AM a vehicle crash occurred on US 53 just north of the River Prairie overpass in the City of Altoona.

Investigation shows that a Pickup Truck pulling a large trailer was northbound on US 53 when it experienced a loss of control just north of the River Prairie over pass.  The vehicle and trailer traveled from the northbound lanes in to the median where they over turned multiple times.  One person was ejected from the vehicle onto the southbound lanes and suffered life threatening injuries.  Two additional people were riding in the vehicle and also suffered injuries.  All three injured people were taken to Mayo Hospital by Eau Claire Fire Department paramedics.  No additional update is available on their conditions and they are not being identified pending notification of relatives.

US 53 Southbound was closed for approximately five hours due to the crash.  US 53 Northbound had various lane closures throughout the morning due to the initial response and investigation.

Altoona Police, Altoona Fire/Rescue, Eau Claire Fire Department, Township Fire Department, Emergicare, Eau Claire Police Department, Eau Claire County Sheriff, Wisconsin State Patrol, Eau Claire County Highway Department, Badger Towing and I-94 Towing assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under the investigation of Altoona Police and Wisconsin State Patrol.  Based on preliminary investigation, it does not appear that Alcohol or Speed were factors in the crash.  

There is no additional information available on the status of the condition of the occupants.

No further information will be released today.
