Eau Claire continues work on West Bank redevelopment

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A building on the Chippewa River's west bank will be razed to make way for new development.

For $360,000, the city of Eau Claire bought the Bartingale Mechanical building on Oxford Avenue. The business has found another building it will move to. However, as part of an agreement, the company will be allowed to stay in the building rent-free until the end of the year.

"The long range goal is to create a redevelopment area that has mixed use buildings that are facing the river, possibly some housing components to it, with park and green space along the riverfront," said Mike Schatz, Economic Development Administrator.

Schatz says the building will be demolished sometime in 2014.
