Chippewa Falls (Press Release) -- John Pollock has been named as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Chippewa Falls High School. John is filling the void created when Alison Becker resigned the position last spring.
Pollock has a long and storied career in the area as a Head Girls Basketball Coach. He spent 27 years at the helm of the Durand Girls Basketball program where compiled a record of 482-134. He led them to 15 conference championships, 11 WIAA Regional Championships, 9 WIAA Sectional Championships and 2 WIAA State Championships. Since his retirement from Durand after a 33 year career in the school district, he was the Head Girls Basketball coach at Elmwood from 2009-2011 and most recently at Plum City where he spent the last two seasons.
Pollock was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007. In addition, he was the 1986 UPI Coach of the Year.
"John's tremendous experience and sustained success over a long period of time speaks volumes", stated Chi-Hi Activities Director John Frizzell. Frizzell also commented that with John's success coming mainly in the Chippewa Valley area, he comes into the position with a great deal of credibility. "John has clearly demonstrated that he understands how to coach young women and that he gets his players to play to the maximum of their abilities. This combination makes him the perfect fit for our program at this time," according to Frizzell.
The Chippewa Falls Girls Basketball team is coming off of back-to-back Big Rivers Conference Championships and returns several key players from last year's team. "I am looking forward to meeting the players and families and continuing the success that the program has enjoyed in recent years and I am honored the administration has given me this opportunity," said Pollock.
The Girls Basketball season begins on November 18th with the first day of practice. The Cardinals are slated to open their season on December 3rd when they host La Crosse Logan.
