Weekend of fun unfolding in Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A big event in Chippewa Falls is underway.

The annual Oktoberfest event which celebrates German heritage kicked off Friday with the selection of this year's Festmeister and Festmeisterin, Dean and Betty White.  Their first responsibilities included the tapping of the golden keg and giving the first official toast... but there's more than beer to enjoy at Oktoberfest.  "Just connecting with people and spending time with all the wonderful people that come to Oktoberfest, enjoying the festivities," said Betty White.  "It has a strong feeling of a family reunion and a class reunion put together.  It's lot of the same people every year, the reach of this is beyond Chippewa Falls, beyond the Chippewa community, and they all become part of the family," said Dean White.

Oktoberfest runs through Sunday.  Admission is $8.
