FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- A Fitchburg teenager gave up her birthday presents to instead, raise money to donate to Combat Blindness International.
Olivia O'Dea has donated her birthday money to the organization the past few years. But this year, she decided to take it a step further and organized a mini-golf event in her own neighborhood. People could have some fun, and if they wanted to, donate money to help the cause.
Olivia learned about Combat Blindness International from some friends a few years ago, and when she realized the organization was able to give many people around the world services and possibly their sight back, she started fundraising.
Olivia was able to raise more than $700 from her event last week. Melissa Witte with Combat Blindness' local office says that will help about 35 people get their sight back, because it only costs CBI $20 to perform sight-saving cataract surgeries.
If you want to help the cause, all donations CBI gets until September 24 will go toward Olivia's fundraiser. Head to this website for more information.
