Marshall Police Department helps deliver baby outside municipal building

MARSHALL (WKOW) -- Sisters from the Marshall Police Department helped deliver a baby Thursday morning outside of the municipal building.

According to a press release, a Marshall man rushed into the Police Department and said his wife was giving birth in their vehicle parked outside in the parking lot.

Officer Kristine Quam, who had just finished her shift, and her sister, Deanna Chadwick, the administrative assistant at the Police Department, quickly jumped into action to help deliver the baby within minutes of the couple arriving at the Police department..

The baby girl was delivered at 7:48 a.m. Marshall EMS transported the newborn and her mother to a local hospital.

"Officer Quam and Administrative Assistant Chadwick were calm and had the incident under control," On Duty Officer Schuster, who was dispatched to the call, said.

Officer Schuster said it was unbelievable how great of a team the two sisters made in assisting the mother and helping bring the newborn into the world.

Thursday happens to be the new dad's birthday.

"It will be hard to top this year's Birthday," the new father said.

Chief Hellenbrand and the Marshall Police Department congratulate the family on the healthy
delivery of their baby.

"It's great that our staff were ready, willing and able to rise to the occasion as they went above and beyond the call of duty to assist one of our residents and share in a moment of joy," Hellenbrand said.

The Department said the mom and daughter are doing well.
