Arrest made in rash of thefts in Columbus


COLUMBUS (WKOW) -- An arrest is made in thefts from unlocked vehicles in Columbus.

The City of Columbus has experienced numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles over the past several weeks.  To combat these crimes, police have worked diligently on alerting the public to the problem and how important it is to lock your vehicles.

A 23-year-old Columbus man has been arrested in relation to the thefts.  Some of the reported stolen property has been recovered.

Another person of interest has been questioned, but has not been arrested at this time.

Criminal charges are expected to be referred to the Columbia County District Attorney's Office.

Any victim who reported a theft to Columbus Police should contact the department to inquire and set up an appointment to view any recovered property.  Victims should call 920-623-5919 and speak with Lieutenant Dennis Weiner.

Police hope the arrest brings some closure to the rash of thefts which have occurred in the community.  

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
