Eau Claire (WQOW) - The three R's are still key in the classroom, but there's another R that's just as important at home: Reinforcement. An Eau Claire school hopes a new grant will drive that home a little more.
RCU and Eau Claire's Own News 18 presented a $300 check to Longfellow Elementary on Thursday. The grant comes from the Tools for Schools program, a partnership between our station and RCU to help classrooms with certain projects. Laurie Nowak applied for a grant for her 2nd grade classroom. She plans to use the money to buy vinyl book bags so students can take their guided reading books home. "Having things like the vinyl book bags for the children to take home, to share their work with their parents, have support from their parents, it really is key to student achievement, I think," said Nowak.
She also plans to use some of the money to buy foam mats for children to sit on during group lessons and morning meetings.
