UW student hit by car overnight; police looking for vehicle

MADISON (WKOW) -- A U.W. student will be okay after being hit by a car early Friday morning, but police are still looking for the vehicle.

Madison police officers were called to the 500 block of University Avenue around 1:00 a.m. Investigators say an intoxicated 20-year-old U.W. student was crossing University Avenue with friends, but fell behind the group because she was texting. Her friends heard something and when they turned around, she was lying in the road.

Police say the driver of the vehicle didn't stop. They're looking for a gold, silver or black vehicle.

The young woman who was hit will be all right. Police say her injuries are not life threatening, but she was taken to the hospital with bruises and a possible concussion.
