Where has Paul Ryan been during the government shutdown debate?

MADISON (WKOW) -- One prominent member of Congress who has noticeably stayed behind the scenes during this week's government shutdown debate is Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI-1).

Despite being an anti-Obamacare conservative, the former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate from Janesville seems to be steering clear of the fight being waged in Congress right now between the Tea Party and the GOP's mainstream.

Rep. Ryan may be playing a role behind the scenes, but he has not publicly engaged in the controversy.

This weekend on Capitol City Sunday, conservative columnist Christian Schneider of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and liberal columnist John Nichols of The Nation talk about Ryan's lack of exposure of the issue.

"Paul Ryan spent all this political capital dragging the party over to where it is now, but now because he's doing something reasonable he looks like he's not out there with the Tea Party," said Schneider.

"Its not necessarily good for him to be out front on this, because it is a chaotic moment and I'm not sure that those who are out front are gonna come out necessarily looking Presidential," said Nichols.

Nichols and Schneider debate that issue and more concerning the government shutdown this weekend on Capitol City Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on WKOW.
