Driver who was texting before hit and run crash gets jail time

Posted:

Chetek (WQOW)- A man accused of sending several text messages moments before he was in a hit and run crash will spend two months in jail.

Landon Cole, from Chetek, will also be on probation for two years and cannot drink during that time.

Investigators say Cole drove across the center line and hit a pickup truck head-on. It happened in August of 2012.  A 19-year old driver and two boys were seriously hurt.  Investigators say Cole walked away from the crash scene.

His mother called the sheriffs office the next day.  Cole told them he hadn't been drinking but his uncle said he had six beers in the three hours before the crash.
