WI Dairy News: Experience the culture of agriculture

MADISON (WKOW) -- For ten days in early October, a fifty mile stretch of road in Reedsburg is transformed into an art gallery as part of Fermentation Fest.

"The Farm Art DTour is the main attraction of Fermentation Fest which takes place during that ten day period," says Donna Neuwirth, the executive director of Wormfarm Institute. "There are classes and workshops on the weekends, but the Farm Art DTour takes place the entire ten days and it is a fifty mile self-guided drive through beautiful scenic farmlands like this."

The temporary installations are created by regional and national artists. It's also a chance for area farmers to showcase their hard work.

There are thirty-nine stops along the DTour; some feature temporary art installations, field notes which explain various aspects of agriculture, roadside farm stands selling produce, pasture performances including music, dance, theater and even kite flying.

"Our mission is to integrate culture into agriculture," says Neuwirth. "And the word culture is embedded in the word agriculture. So we want to remind people that this is a creative occupation that moves and changes with the times and ferments and transforms just like milk does to cheese."

The Festival runs from October 4th - 13th and the Farm Art DTour is available to view the entire time.
