Day 2: Fewer snags signing up for ObamaCare

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The online signup for health insurance comes with fewer snags Wednesday.

Tuesday was the first day you could sign up and shop for coverage; a feature of ObamaCare.

On Tuesday, the federal government's website was down or very slow.  The government blames that on so many people trying to log on.  The Department of Health and Human Services says 4.7 million Americans visited Tuesday.  The government did not anticipate a number that high.

"They knew it was going to be October 1st when this was going to happen.  Obviously, everybody had to get it done and so of course there was going to be some huge load on the system," says State Representative Tom Larson.  "That only makes sense to me so yes, it's an oversight on the federal government's part."

WQOW tested the system again Wednesday and had to wait it out online, but the wait was much shorter than it was Tuesday.

On top of the website traffic, about 190,000 people called the help line.  The White House hopes about 7 million people sign up during the first year.  There are about 50 million Americans without insurance.
