Watertown ready to 'Run From the Cops'

WATERTOWN (WKOW) -- Usually running from the cops is not a good thing, but this weekend it's being encouraged in Watertown.

The annual Run from The Cops 5K Run/Walk will be this Saturday in the city's downtown.
All profits from the event go to support People Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse, or PADA.
The advocacy group serves Jefferson County.
The run coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and police point out that domestic violence is a serious community and statewide problem.
The Watertown Police Department made 270 domestic violence related arrests in 2011 and 163 such arrests in 2012.

"We're proud to be able to support PADA," says Captain Mark Meddaugh. "And we have had great attendance and support. I want to continue that trend." Last year's event raised more than $13,000 for PADA.
Participants in "Run from the Cops" will enjoy a great time, while supporting a good cause.
For the first time a 10K loop is being added to the list of events.  There is also a 5K run/walk and youth 1-mile run.
The event will feature music, post-race refreshments, giveaways and a mascot race with McGruff the Crime Dog and possibly Bucky Badger.  The race is designed for the serious runner as well as the casual runner/walker.  Hundreds of attendees are expected.
