Lawmakers from Madison area introduce medical marijuana bill

MADISON (WKOW) -- Two Wisconsin Democrats are taking another shot at legalizing marijuana for medical use in the state.

Representative Chris Taylor of Madison and Senator Jon Erpenbach of Middleton held a news conference Thursday to announce their bill. They claim marijuana can provide pain relief other medication cannot.

It's unlikely the bill will go anywhere, as Republicans control both houses of the legislature in Wisconsin.

Democrats have been pushing for years to legalize medical marijuana in Wisconsin and introduced a similar bill in 2010, when they had complete control of the state government. That proposal stalled after a public hearing.

Democrats brought it back in 2011, when Republicans controlled the Assembly and Senate, and the measure didn't get so much as a hearing.
