Goodman Community Center to hand out 2,000 Thanksgiving baskets

MADISON (WKOW) -- Halloween is right around the corner and Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. The Goodman Community Center is already starting to get ready for the feast in an effort to help 2,000 families in Dane County.

The food pantry at the center wants to put together at least 2,000 Thanksgiving baskets with frozen turkeys, vegetables, fruit, gravy, cranberry sauce, disposable roaster pans, pumpkin pie mix, evaporated milk, Jiffy pie crust mix and aluminum pie tins. They're asking people to donate those items or put together a drive with a local organization they're involved in.

For families who need help this year, registration starts Monday, October 7 and goes until October 18. You can register online or by calling (608) 241-1574 x249 Monday through Friday from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. Families can register in person at the Goodman Community Center by filling out a registration form at the front desk or through the Fritz Food Pantry on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to Noon, Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Families who are getting a Thanksgiving basket will get a letter from the Goodman Center notifying them of the day and pick-up time. Thanksgiving Baskets will be distributed November 23 to 26.
