Another suspect sentenced in volunteer firefighter arson case

Taylor County (WQOW) - One of the men accused of helping an off-duty volunteer firefighter set fires is going to jail.

Chris Zak, from Medford, was charged with helping a friend use Molotov cocktails to set fire to four barns and sheds in Taylor County two years ago.

Investigators said Jason Schmudlach was the instigator.  He was a Rib Lake firefighter who was setting the fires because he wanted the 'action' and notoriety of helping put them out.  Zak was sentenced on Tuesday to seven months in jail and 500 hours of community service.  Schmudlach is serving a five-year prison sentence.
