The Sheriff's Office says the victims are suspected of drinking alcohol before the crash.

ELK MOUND (Dunn County Sheriff's Press Release) - The Dunn County Sheriff's Office reports that at 1:24 a.m. the Communications Center received a report of a two vehicle crash involving a semi tractor-trailer and a car at the intersection of STH 29 and 970th St. in the township of Elk Mound. Upon initial report there was one subject dead on scene.

The Dunn County Sheriff's deputies, Colfax Ambulance, Elk Mound Fire, Mayo Helicopter and Wisconsin State Patrol were dispatched to the scene. Upon Sheriff's Deputies' arrival the Dunn County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene along with Chippewa County Deputies to assist with traffic control.

Upon arrival deputies found two of the occupants of the car dead on scene along with one other occupant seriously injured. The survivor was transported by ground to Mayo Eau Claire.

Upon investigation it was determined that the car was crossing STH 29 south bound onto 970th St. when it was struck by a west bound tractor trailer unit, fully loaded. After impact the semi unit crossed through the median and east bound lanes and came to rest in the ditch south of STH 29.

The driver of the semi unit was uninjured and is not suspected of any causation of the crash but voluntarily submitted to a blood draw to confirm there was no alcohol or drugs in his system.

The occupants of the car involved are suspected of consuming alcohol before the crash and were not wearing seatbelts. They are all believed to be local farm employees.

The crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and a reconstruction of the crash is being done by Wisconsin State Patrol. No other information will be released at this time.
