CHARLOTTE, NC (WKOW) -- NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth presented a $25,000 check to the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center on Wednesday.

The donation was made by Citizen Watch Company of America on behalf of Kenseth. The Cambridge, WI native is a Citizen Brand Ambassador.

"Citizen wanted to make a significant donation to a charity of our choice, so we decided to help the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center," Kenseth said in a statement. "Our family knows first-hand the terrible effects of Alzheimer's. Hopefully, through donations such as these we can fund research dedicated to furthering our understanding of this disease and working toward a cure."

Dr. Sanjay Asthana, professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and director of the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center of the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison, received the money from Kenseth in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"We are making substantial progress in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease through early testing, but we have a ways to go," Asthana said.  "This gift will help us continue to look for novel ways to predict Alzheimer's disease.  More importantly, it will help us find interventions that will work to either postpone or prevent the onset of the disease."
