Prison time for one suspect in convenience store scam

Eau Claire (WQOW) - One of the people accused of bilking an area convenience store chain out of nearly $10,000 in merchandise will spend a year in federal prison.

Gwen Herbert, from Chicago, was sentenced yesterday. Herbert and two others were accused of using counterfeit Discover gift cards to buy hundreds of cartons of cigarettes at Mega Holiday stores in the Eau Claire area.

One of the other suspects, William McEachin, was recently sentenced to two years in federal prison. Prosecutors say they ran the scam at locations throughout the state. Both are still facing charges in Eau Claire County Court as well.
