Madison Edgewood, Lake, Reinecke WIAA girls golf champions

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Edgewood girls golf team continued its dominance at the WIAA state golf tournament, winning the division-two championship for the third year in a row, and the 12th time in 13 years. The Crusaders latest championship came with a bit of controversy. Edgewood's number-two player, junior Tess Hackworthy, was in position to finish second individually, but she was disqualified. After her round, Hackworthy turned herself in after making a mistake on her scorecard, which eliminated her from the field. Edgewood still scored well enough as a team, without Hackworthy, to win the state title by 21 strokes.

Edgewood junior Caroline Lake won the individual D2 title shooting a tournament best 3-under par. Lake is the first Edgewood golfer to win the individual title since 2003.

In division-one, Verona junior Jessica Reinecke won the individual title for the second year in a row. Reinecke matched her career best score of 69 on day one and followed it with a 74 on day two, finishing the tournament at 1-under, winning by four strokes. The Verona team finished second behind Arrowhead.
